Navigating Business Central & Kind Connect Upgrade

Jason OchipaMicrosoft Dynamics 365 Business Central has two major releases each year – wave 1 is in April and wave 2 is in October. Microsoft includes a lot of new features and functionalities in these releases. With the major releases, you can create a sandbox and preview or test the update for 60 days.

Depending on your internal control process for testing and change management, you may choose to test the update or skip testing and install it directly into production.

In general, creating a sandbox is useful for testing extensions. You may have custom reports that are created through extensions or other page modifications. A lot of our customers use Kind Connect extension. Sandbox is the only way to really test extensions since they impact the entire environment. Ideally, the best way to test is to copy your production into a sandbox. For more details on how to create a sandbox environment, read this blog post.

Kind Connect Release Process

Tensoft has aligned the updates to Kind Connect extension with Business Central’s major releases – April & October. These updates include new features and enhancements to comply with the new release of Business Central.

The Kind Connect release process involves a lot of planning, testing and support on our end to ensure a successful upgrade.
We recommend testing the new extension before uploading it to production. You can create a copy of your production environment into Sandbox when the Business Central release is generally available and test the new extension. Usually, we email the .APP file to customers and allow them two weeks for testing.

Uploading the Updated Kind Connect Extension

Assuming no significant issues arise because of testing, you can schedule the update in their production environment.
To upload, go to Extension Management > Manage > Upload Extension > Select the latest version of Kind Connect > click accept > Deploy.

We can assist you with the creation of a sandbox and installation of extensions if needed.
